The people behind GraphoGame.

We meet Mervi Palander, founder of GraphoGame at her home in Finland to discuss the institution she has created and the ongoing capital expansion of the company.

First of all, who are you?

I wanted to take a moment and invite you into a typical day in my life as the CEO of GraphoGame. Mornings kick off with a planning session, where I dive into the  tasks that await us in team, strategy, product, and growth sectors. It’s a collaborative process, and I’m fortunate to have incredible partners by my side. Let me introduce them to you.

First I  would like to introduce Jesper Ryynänen, my co-founder and an essential pillar of our journey. Together, we navigate the ever-changing landscape of the startup world, continuously learning and growing. Jesper’s primary responsibility lies in forging strong partnerships with universities and schools worldwide.

I am thrilled to introduce Christina Joyce, our esteemed US market entry partner, who brings over 20 years of experience in building and growing media, technology, impact education, and advertising businesses on a global scale. With her deep expertise and strategic vision, Christina plays a pivotal role in our mission to expand the reach and impact of GraphoGame in the US market.

And then there’s Pedro Farelo, our talented designer, who brings our vision to life with his creative expertise. Pedro’s designs capture the essence of GraphoGame, making it visually engaging and user-friendly.

We also have Truly Agency, our trusted growth hacking partner. Their innovative strategies and insights help us reach new heights and connect with our target audience effectively.

Last but not least, we have Ivo Kapanen, our skilled Unity developer. With his technical prowess, Ivo ensures that our app functions seamlessly and provides an exceptional user experience.

Together, we work tirelessly to improve our service, driven by feedback from our clients and university partners. Throughout the day, I dedicate myself to connecting with clients, building strong relationships, and understanding their needs deeply.

Running a company is an extraordinary journey filled with growth, learning, and surprises. Every day brings new and unique challenges, but with our dedicated team and supportive partners, we embrace them with enthusiasm.

Currently, we are focused on scaling our sales efforts and raising funding to propel GraphoGame to new heights. We’re excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead.

I look forward to sharing more of our journey with you as we continue to empower children and make a positive impact in the world of literacy.

What does a working day at GraphoGame look like?

I am excited to introduce myself as a passionate and experienced senior executive with a deep commitment to driving digital transformation and learning innovations. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to collaborate with leading multinational companies and innovative start-ups, developing impactful solutions and gaining valuable expertise in general management. However, my true joy comes from being a part of GraphoGame and contributing to its incredible mission of promoting literacy worldwide. With GraphoGame’s evidence-based literacy game, we have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children, equipping them with the essential tools for success. So, let’s embark on this thrilling journey of literacy, learning, and boundless fun together.

Why did you start GG?

I started GraphoGame because I firmly believe that no child should be held back by illiteracy in today’s world. It is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed. With a strong belief in evidence-based education, I wanted to create a solution that would provide effective and engaging early literacy education for children.

By collaborating with renowned universities and language experts, we ensure that GraphoGame is tailored to the specific needs of different languages and cultures. This approach allows us to provide a comprehensive and impactful learning experience for children.

Moreover, I am driven by the power of technology to transform education. Through the gamified nature of GraphoGame, we make the learning process fun and interactive, motivating children to develop their reading and writing skills.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower children with the foundational literacy skills they need to thrive in their educational journey and beyond. I am passionate about making a positive impact and ensuring that every child has equal opportunities to succeed

What will the new capital contribute to?

The new capital raised will have a significant impact on our company’s commercialization efforts. With a focus on sales and business development, we plan to ramp up global sales through direct and indirect channels, targeting schools, cities, and governments with our B2B SaaS analytics service. We will also leverage existing contacts to generate sales in the public, CSR, and NGO sectors to expand our user base and increase B2I revenue.

To accelerate user acquisition, we will initiate paid marketing activities to drive more downloads. Additionally, we will invest in localised growth hacking talent to target specific markets, particularly in B2G cases.

On the product front, we have exciting plans. We will launch the GraphoGame Teacher Platform, a B2B SaaS service, in August 2023. Furthermore, we aim to integrate all language versions of GraphoGame into one app/game and introduce a premium subscription service for B2C users, catering to parents. Lastly, we will develop native apps for GraphoMath and plan to launch them by late 2023.

Overall, the new capital will fuel our growth and enable us to improve the user experience, expand our language offerings, and reach a broader audience through strategic marketing and product development initiatives. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and the positive impact we can make in promoting literacy worldwide.
