GraphoGame is an academically researched learning game for teaching children early literacy skills. With 250 million illiterate children in the world and up to 10% of all people having dyslexia, teachers and schools struggle to provide the 1-on-1 support these children need.
GraphoGame produces analytics of the child’s decoding & phonics practice, allowing for parents and teachers to quickly react to bottlenecks in their learning.
2005 - 2010
This early research pinpointed which groups of children benefit most from playing GraphoGame: those at risk of reading failure and non-readers that haven’t yet started learning.
Further research showed that playing GraphoGame makes the brain of a non-reader more sensitive to letters and speech sounds, preparing them for further reading acquisition.
2010 - 2014
The GraphoGame Method used with transparent languages started showing convincing results. Children at risk of reading failure significantly improved their spelling, letter knowledge and reading fluency when playing GraphoGame.
These promising findings prompted further adaptation of GraphoGame into different languages, from English to Spanish and even African languages such as Cinyanja.
2014 - 2020
Qualitative research approaches shed more light on the role of teachers in the learning process. The positive effects of GraphoGame were strongest when teachers also had a chance to use the game, scaffolding the students’ learning and motivation.
Large-scale studies with exceptional methodological rigour further demonstrated that GraphoGame is a cost-effective addition to the conventional literacy support struggling readers receive from teachers.
2020 -
GraphoGame was developed through the GraphoLearn initiative, a global academic initiative dedicated to creating gamified evidence-based literacy solutions.
30 years of development
300+ peer-reviewed publications
30+ partnered research institutions
20+ Masters and doctoral theses
It is because it’s based on the alphabetic principle, the concept that spoken sounds and words correspond to written text. This is one of the first skills a child develops when learning to read.
Research has shown that children who don’t create a robust foundation for reading through the use of phonics are at a greater risk of developing reading difficulties later in their lives
The app embraces this science and puts it into exercises that are both fun and rewarding for children. Gamifying the exercises makes the children motivated to want to learn more, which is what’s most important in the long term!

GraphoGame apps are sold through the Apple, Google Play and Microsoft Stores which each have their own unique way of allowing school to purchase apps in volume. Explore the up-to-date information below on what programs each app store offers:
Apple App Store (iPhones, iPads & new Mac computers)
The Apple School Manager program is the gold standard for purchasing apps in schools, districts and other educational organizations. All you need is a handful of Apple devices that your organization, staff or clients own. Here’s how it works: support.apple.com/en-us/guide/deployment-education/edub2bcccc1f/web
Google Play (Android devices or Chromebooks)
Managed by Google Play is a slightly more complicated version of Apple School Manager for buying apps for multiple Android devices. They allow all types of organizations to buy apps and make them privately available for accounts that have been registered in Google Play, see this support article to set up your accounts: support.google.com/googleplay/work/answer/7042221
Microsoft Store (All Windows devices)
The Microsoft Store for Business and Education is the primary way schools used to be able to download GraphoGame in volume. Having changed their policies as of April 1, 2021, the Microsoft Education Store now only contains our apps that have been made free through Nationwide Licensing. As a result, buying GraphoGame for Windows devices has become manual in nature, and we see this continuing to be the case with the changes proposed in July 2021.

Although our game is designed so the children can learn to read independently, there are of course things you as a parent can do to support them. We’ve gathered 7 tips in this blog post of how to support your child.
GraphoGame has been designed to be played without adult supervision, but that does not mean we do not want them involved!
GraphoGame collects valuable insights into how your young student is progressing and supports literacy and dyslexia interventions by helping you to identify if - and where - they require further support.
The game is free to download in the following countries: Brazil, Jamaica, & Guyana.
In the rest of the world the price varies a little bit depending on the region, but it is never more than 4 USD. Visit your app store to see your exact price.
It is a one-time payment, meaning there will never be any extra costs. No subscription fees, no in-game purchases and no other hidden fees. The app is also 100% ad free to give the children a safe experience.
Yes. The game has a default volume level that can be changed so your device plays at the absolute loudest, rather than what is recommended for quieter contexts.
To change the default volume, go to the main menu on the home screen (leftmost icon with three lines) and then click on ” Settings ” ⚙️ when the new window opens. Then, click on ” Sound settings ” 🎵 and adjust the ” Effects ” level to the right for louder instructions and effects.
The “Music” slider allows you to lower or raise the volume (not recommended for kids) of the background music. Try using headphones in classrooms to minimize noise.
If you are using a PC that runs on Linux or Ubuntu, your device is not yet compatible. The easiest way to use GraphoGame on a PC without Windows 10 is to download an “Android emulator”. A quick internet search will allow you to find an emulator to download, which will allow you to use the Android version of GraphoGame on your PC.
